Match Report
24th October 2009

Cwpan Ceredigion - Ffostrasol 1 v 4 Crannog (after extra-time).

On an autumnal windy day in Ffostrasol, Crannog went into the match having the bare 11 players available due to injuries and illnesses missing at least 6 first team regulars. Playing up the slope in the first half, the weather was making the football hard to play but Crannog settled better with Ffostrasol often putting the visitors under pressure with their hard work and endeavour.

Midway through the first half a good move from the right side of defence into Chris Welch who let fly with a shot which hit the post. Quickest to react was Dewi Day who followed up the rebound to give Crannog the half time lead.

Playing with the slope in the second half, the wind seemed to have increased but the two teams were quite evenly matched with no real chances in the early exchanges. But a defensive lapse by Phil Blackwood nearly cost Crannog as he lost the ball to a Ffostrasol striker who with only the keeper to beat put his shot 5 yards wide.

With the game going in to the final quarter, Crannog were looking the more likely to score but with five minutes to go a quick throw from Rhydian Morgan out to the right back position, two Crannog players made a hash of the possession. Matt Stapleton then crossed from the edge of the area and with the Crannog players retreating to defend, the ball ricocheted off two player’s legs and wrong-footed the keeper for the equaliser.

With Crannog kicking up the slope again in the first half, it took less than five minutes to score the second goal following a good passing move between Tony Parry and Chris Welch who set up Kev White to chip the oncoming keeper and give Crannog the lead at half time of extra time.

During the final fifteen minutes, Crannog were well in control, increasing their lead through Tony Parry and Chris Welch to make the final score 4-1.

A game which Crannog should have won within the 90 minutes but as most teams know, Ffostrasol are a stubborn outfit at home.

Many thanks to Peter Snow, Crannog Manager, for the report.
